Bio

Hello, I’m Henry. I’ve been a designer for just over 6 years now. Here’s the story in reverse chronological order.

I was previously at ROSS Intelligence as Design Lead. ROSS is a Series A startup in legal, building a search tool for lawyers that will hopefully lower the cost of law services by making the research process more efficient.

Before that, I tried my hand at running my own design-build furniture studio for over three years where I showed work in Toronto and New York. I took contract stints at Rogers Sportsnet, Cineplex, and Entertainment One around then.

While I was at OCAD, I worked for a couple years as the only designer a restaurant startup called Levetto. I also split my time as a UX/UI designer with four tech startups at the DMZ and worked as an intern at Concrete.

My first job in design was at Umbra, photoshopping pictures of garbage cans. Simpler times, right?

  • Focused on user experience based on user data and qualitative testing through guided prototypes and release candidates.
  • Product metrics saw growth in sign-ups, signup success rate, time on site and our North Star metric over time.
  • Overhauled identity with new logo concept & visual applications, as well as the online presence with a new website that better explained the product and cut through the ‘AI’ buzz with explainable, chronological story based explainers. Time on site increased 250% and qualified traffic increased 120% month over month.

  • Worked with my professor, Miles Keller.
  • Studied anatomy, ergonomics to design products for Ergocentric, Allseating & Umbra.
  • Research and prototyping led to patent-pending mesh shape that provides more cushioning to the shoulder blades. Communicated concepts in sketches, photorealistic renderings, Solidworks assemblies and physical prototypes.

  • Worked in one of Toronto’s best restaurants (I’m biased). Part of a fast paced, close knit team that worked 12-14 hour days.

  • Designed from the ground up the visual identity of a startup Toronto-based restaurant chain with 8 locations in Ontario.
  • Responsible for overseeing all creative aspects of the business.
  • Developed and executed branding strategies including use of photography, branding, new dish names and interior design.
  • Developed homepage website on custom CMS with backend resources for training, recipes and procedures for new franchisees.
